Alumnus success at International 'Prague Spring' Cello Competition 2012

Vashti Hunter, member of the EUYO in 2008 and 2009, has become the first British cellist ever to win a prize at the International Cello Competition 'Prague Spring', a prestigious event that has been running for 65 years. Vashti was awarded 3rd prize for her performance of the Dvořák cello concerto, conducted by Koji Kawamoto, in Prague's Rudolfinum Hall.

Former EUYO violinist makes BBC Proms début as... a soprano!

Anna Samuil, who first appeared at the BBC Proms as a violinist with the EUYO in 1997, under Sir Bernard Haitink, is set to make her Proms début this summer... as a soprano!

 

Now an internationally celebrated singer, Anna will be performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Choral, with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The performance will be conducted by Daniel Barenboim, with whom Anna has performed Beethoven's Ninth a number of times.

EUYO cellist's string quartet wins Special Prize at International Competition!

David Sloan, a current cellist of the EUYO, and his colleagues in the Cantabile String Quartet, Gongbo Jiang, Wen Wang and Hua Zhong, were finalists at the 1st International Sándor Végh String Quartet Competition where they were awarded a Special Prize for their interpretation of Lajtha.

EUYO alumnus appointed Principal Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra

Jaime Martin, former flautist of the EUYO, has recently been announced as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra. Jaime first joined the ECYO (EUYO's predecessor) in 1988 whilst studying at the Royal Conservatoire of The Haag, Netherlands. The Spanish conductor is also one of Europe's leading solo and orchestral flautists, having most recently performed as principal flute of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
