Matthias Bamert to replace Sir Colin Davis at EUYO's BBC Proms concert

Sir Colin Davis has announced his withdrawal from all his European Union Youth Orchestra engagements on health grounds, with extreme regrets. He was due to conduct the EUYO at the BBC Proms on 9th August, and in two concerts at Grafenegg Music Summer on 7th and 14th August. Swiss-born Matthias Bamert will replace Sir Colin for all three concerts. Bamert's first of many appearances with the EUYO was in 1985 in Italy and Luxembourg, and we are delighted to welcome him back.

EUYO summer school flautist wins Malta "Promising" young musician award

Flautist Laura Cioffi has won the 'Promising' category for musicians aged under 17 in the eighth Young Musicians Contest 2010, organised by the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, at the Casino Maltese, Valletta, the Times of Malta reported on Sunday 4th July. Laura was one of ten young musicians from around the EU who were selected to join the European Union Youth Orchestra's Leverhulme Summer School in July 2009. Read more
